The Perfect Job Is a Myth. Chasing It Is What Makes Us Unfulfilled.

We're conditioned to believe a single "perfect" role will solve everything, but the truth is, fulfilment is built, not found.
In my experience, what truly matters in a role is:
Learning - Are you growing? Are you picking up new skills and being challenged?
People - Are you part of a team that supports and inspires you?
Impact - Does your work, even in small ways, feel like it makes a difference?
A business coach once taught me something that changed my perspective: purpose doesn't have to live solely in your career.
It's okay to find satisfaction in what you deliver at work, while building a life outside that brings joy and deeper meaning.
If you're struggling to find joy in your current role, here are a few tips:
Take control - focus on what you can change: the skills you build, the relationships you nurture, and the small wins you create.
Say yes to challenges - if you have the capacity, put your hand up for projects beyond your core role. Taking on stretch work can bring fresh energy and accelerate growth.
Collaborate widely - seek out projects or colleagues that spark your interest, even if your day-to-day feels routine.
Build purpose outside of work - give yourself permission to find fulfilment beyond your job, whether through family, community, or personal projects.
Fulfilment doesn't come from chasing the perfect job. It comes from how you shape the role you have - and the life you build around it.
What does fulfilment look like to you?
