Booming for Some, Brutal for Others: What's Really Happening in the Job Market

  • Australia added 89,000 jobs last month.

  • Unemployment is steady.

  • Participation is near record highs.

But if you work in marketing, digital or creative - it probably doesn't feel like a boom.

Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)'s latest jobs report shows where the real growth is:

  • Health, aged care and infrastructure

  • Public sector and government-funded initiatives

  • Full-time roles for women on the rise (a positive sign)

  • But the unemployment rate is steady as more people are entering the job market

Meanwhile, AdNews Australia reports:

  • 67% of marketers are actively looking for new roles

  • 60% say they're being ghosted after applying

  • 41% of people don't know how to match their skills to the roles on offer

The disconnect I keep seeing:

  • There are fewer roles in the market as agencies are still cautious, and many are holding off on new hires

  • The roles that do exist are often written with vague or conflicting expectations

  • Candidates are applying without a clear link to what the role needs

  • Strong talent slips past unnoticed - and businesses lose time

If you're a hiring manager, and your open roles are dragging on - it's not just a sourcing issue. It's a clarity issue.

And if you're a jobseeker, especially in marketing or creative, it's not just about applying more. It's about applying smarter.

This is what I help with - on both sides.
