Is It Ever Too Late to Change Careers?

Have you ever felt stuck in your career but thought, "It's too late to start over"?

You're not alone. I speak with people all the time who want to turn a passion into a career or explore a new industry but feel stuck - unsure of where to start, how to make the shift, or if it's even possible.

But here's the truth: It's never too late to make a career move - especially if it's something you're truly passionate about.

How to Make a Career Change Work

Do your research - before making a move, understand the industry you're entering. What skills are required? What are the realistic job prospects?

Make a sensible plan - a career change doesn't have to be all-or-nothing. Can you transition gradually? Take on a contract role? Gain experience through side projects?

Identify transferable skills - leadership, communication, problem-solving - these apply across industries. Reframe your experience to highlight what's relevant.

Understand the risks - career change comes with uncertainty. Will you need to take a pay cut? Upskill? Be prepared for a learning curve?

Know your timeline - how long can you afford to be in transition? What's your financial runway? Do you have a fallback plan if things take longer than expected?

Network & build connections - as I've said before, many jobs are filled through relationships, not job boards. Engage with people in your target industry, join professional groups, and start conversations.
